Cowan Capital Advisors is tailored to cater to the middle tier of the high-net-worth market, with investable liquid assets around $2.0 million (2M). This account size necessitates prudent management to minimize turnover and lessen capital gains exposure, which is why our services are specifically designed to meet the unique needs of this target segment.
Your firm is smaller than some of the more well-known firms. Should I be concerned about placing such a large amount of money with a small advisor?
On the contrary, today it is an advantage for a firm to be small. It means that every client matters in a way that is just not the case in a large firm. With us you will always get personal service. Size for many years was an issue but it is no longer because of the rapid advances in fintech which have levelled the playing field in the advisor space.
You state Cowan Capital Advisors is GIPS compliant. What is GIPS and why should I care about it?
The Global Investment Performance Standards (GIPS®) are ethical and professional standards for the presentation of investment performance results. The GIPS are a voluntary set of standards. They are based on the fundamental principles of full disclosure and fair representation of performance results. When investment management firms comply with the GIPS, clients, prospective clients, and consultants are better equipped to fairly assess historical investment performance. Cowan Capital Advisor’s performance composite is constructed and maintained by Longs Peak Advisory Services.
I worked with you in the past and my account size does not meet your minimum funding.
Former clients may be eligible for exceptions relating to account size.
What research capabilities does your firm have?
We rely on a combination of in-house and third-party research tools to shape our perspective on current market conditions and determine optimal positioning for portfolios. We also utilize the industry leading Riskalyze software to help us quantify your appetite for risk, which ensures we are building portfolios consistent with each client’s self-assessed risk tolerance.
How long does it take to get an account established at Cowan Capital Advisors and have funds transferred from my current custodian?
We can establish your new account and initiate a transfer within minutes. The standard ACAT transfer process usually takes about 3-4 business days, but with our streamlined process, you avoid the hassle of paperwork and the delays of overnighting paperwork back and forth.
I had a bad experience working with an advisor in a small firm before.
Regardless of the size of the financial institution, poor advice can happen in any organization regardless of firm size. What matters is the competence of your advisor, their dedication and desire to help clients.
I see you are based in California but I live in another state. Can you do business with me?
We are located in and are currently registered in the State of California, but because we operate primarily on a virtual basis, we are able to provide advice to clients in other states where we are properly registered and/or notice-filed, or where an exemption to registration exists. Please contact us to verify if we are able to provide services in your state.
I would like to join Cowan Capital Advisors but you are far from where I live.
Our services are not limited by distance as we can communicate through video conferencing and offsite travel.
You stated you left your previous firm because it got too large. How do I know if the same thing will not happen again?
We limit our advisor/client capacity to a reasonable level to ensure we maintain high service standards.
